When word spread that an old wreck had been spotted at Fly Point I was highly sceptical. True, some of Fly Point’s sandy seabed had been shifting but I was still dubious that this wasn’t somebody’s idea of a joke. But in a sense it was true. Mick Todd’s parked Ute certainly qualified as an old wreck!
Covid19 Lockdown Two. Port Stephens’ second Lockdown began on 5 August. A state-wide Lockdown then began on August 14th and thanks to a small but steady trickle of new Covid-19 cases in the Port Stephens LGA, Nelson Bay remained in Lockdown until NSW started to lift restrictions on Oct 11th.
The underwater recovery from the March 2021 local freshwater floods continued with more and more kelp and plants growing, particularly at Fly Point. Although compared to the past there was still limited small marine life in the shallows, below seven to eight metres was a different story. I was spoilt for choice. If pushed to decide I would say that my favourite encounter was with an Eastern Green Turtle at Fly Point. Or no, maybe it was a particularly large Flathead or maybe a bold Octopus, both at Fly Point. Anyway, I was again a happy underwater photographer.
