Dec. 2000
The fringing coral reef that protects most of the Kenyan coast starts at Malindi and stretches south for 230 kilometres. Our December 2000 dive holiday was based at Watamu in order that Eve and I could dive the Watamu-Malindi Marine National Reserve with Aqua Ventures Dive Centre, owned and run by Steve Curtis. Unfortunately we found the diving very disappointing as the local coral reef had been badly affected by global warming.

Dive sites that we visited included Drummers Reef, The Canyon, Moray Reef, The Mida Wreck and Brain Coral. Moray Reef is home to 'George' a semi-tame giant moray eel and the Mida Wreck is an ex-shrimp trawler.
